You have arrived on the
Cornmill Country Estate.
The Coach House
Standing at the entrance to the estate the coach house was an
important building. Traditionally used to stable teams of horses,
weary from long journeys delivering grain to be milled on the estate.
Visiting coachmen could also find shelter with the estates stable hand
who took his lodgings in the first floor hay loft.
The Threshers Cottages
These traditionally styled white washed storey and a half
buildings were used to thresh or beat the sheaves of corn as
they arrived on the estate. Overseen by the Lotman
(who was typically paid an allowance of corn as part of his fee)
the threshers beat the sheaves with flails to separate the valuable
grain from the inedible chaff.
Millers Row
The Millers Row is traditionally inspired terrace of townhouses
fronting the shared green at the very heart of the estate.
These period buildings housed the estates millers and their
families.
